Swiper: Swiping no More

For nearly a decade, Dora the Explorer has been keeping the attention of children everywhere. The beloved child, along with her red-booted monkey friend aptly named Boots, and her chatty helper Back-Pack have taken kids on trips through famous nursery rhymes, sacred Holidays, and has introduced them to Hispanic culture and language they might otherwise have never seen. In many episodes, Dora has chosen to deal with the subject of morality. One way she has done so is by the introduction of an orange fox named for his proclivity for theft; Swiper.
Wearing a blue mask swiper scoots in and out of scenes in search of something to steal, while the host incites the viewing audience to shame the thrifty animal with the phrase, "Swiper, no swiping!" Primarily among the fox community, there has arisen an outcry from those who claim the stereotype is unfair. The charge is that the phrase, "sly as a fox" has more to do with wisdom than sneakiness.
A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Swiper by Robert Schapiro of O.J. Simpson fame. Schapiro said this of Swiper, "Notwithstanding a troubled youth, Newton, J. Swiper has been an upstanding member of the community since before Dora started filming in 2000. The idea that an actor playing a part in a television show shares the character of the role he or she plays is archaic and patently false. This young fox is worthy of the respect shown any other actor. We have filed for damages, defamation of character, and we've demanded that the producers of the show begin depicting Swiper as the wholesome character he actually is."
After trying to reach Swiper for comment, fracturedrepublic.com discovered Swiper was admitted to Mercy hospital for the treatment of wounds received while allegedly attempting to hold up a convenience store.
